Wrapping a circle of support around these families, we create extended family-like relationships—including a safe home for children to live in temporarily—that give parents space to get their lives back on track until they are in a better place to care for their children again. This network of relationships keeps children from entering the foster care system and, ultimately, helps keep families together.
North Plains Christian Church is excited to partner with Safe Families in ushering in God’s Kingdom in Washington County. Currently there are an estimated 2400 children (infants through 18 year olds) that are considered homeless or in a vulnerable situation. There are two major ways you can help partner with Safe Families:
1. Become a Host Family: a host family is one that opens up their home for a short period of time to provide a safe living environment for children while staff with Safe Families works with the parents / guardians to get back on their feet and create a healthy home environment.
2. Become a Family Friend: a family friend is one that is willing to come alongside the host family to help with a variety of support. This could include bringing a meal, transportation, helping out financially or taking the children for a few hours so that the host family can have some time to rest.
